No. 2580 Large Japanese tiger and dragon vase – Meiji

Magnificent large Japanese vase dating to the Meiji period or possibly slightly earlier ie second half of 19th Century.  Decorated on one side with a 5-clawed dragon attacking a tiger and on the reverse with a floral design.  There is a pattern in underglaze blue  at the top and bottom representing blossom floating in water.  The two moulded ring handles are covered in gilded leaves.  An underglaze blue character mark on the base.

Size: height 28 cm, diameter 18 cm
