No 2452 Chinese underglaze blue bottle vase - Qing dynasty
Heavy Chinese underglaze blue porcelain bottle vase. Simply decorated on one side with a Taoist Immortal, lying back on a mossy rock with vapour rising up the neck of the vase from a nearby flask. The detail shown of the mossy rock and the striped garment is extremely fine - probably produced by a master painter. Dating from at least the 19th century but possibly earlier - the base is toasted, rolling out in the Yongzheng manner and the foot rim is slightly flared, rounded and hand-finished, again in the Yongzheng manner - all suggesting a possibly earlier date.
