No 2424 Large Japanese shaped Arita dish

Large Japanese porcelain shaped Arita dish. Decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze in coloured enamels of red, green and gold. The centre of the dish shows a peaceful foreground but with a volcano and fire in the background. Textile decoration patterns are used to form stylised hills. The shaped edge is divided into 4 scenes - 2 showing grain and grass and 2 showing birds.

The base has 6 kiln stilt marks. Believe to be 18th century, although could be earlier.

Condition: good. There are a few tiny minor glaze chips to the rim and slight rubbing.

Size: diameter 28.5 cm, depth 4.5 cm
