No 2285 Small lidded Kogo (Incense burner) SOLD

£95.00

Small lidded Kogo (incense holder) .  This Kutani Kogo is handmade to near perfection from fine old white Kutani porcelain. It is an unusual shape – used for holding rolled incense balls.  Dates to late Meiji period (1868 – 1912).  Used in traditional ceremonies.  Decorated in the original Kutani colours – green, black, brown or gold with a touch of blue- and showing a travelling man holding sticks in both hands.  Character mark on base is the fuku mark most often used on old Kutani.  The box ( tomobaku) holding the Kogo should be signed with the kiln name by the potter.
