No 2281 Japanese Ko Imari Arita Landscape and Asters lobed bowl
Lobed bowl in hexalobed foliate form decorated in underglaze blue both to interior and exterior with contrasting panels of stylised landscapes and ikebana style arrangements of asters in a vase. The centre is decorated with the 3 friends of winter – the pine, bamboo and plum, symbolising Long Life. The landscape includes a curious tornado like motif which appears on late C17th Kakiemon porcelain. The base has a Chinese style 6 character nien hao for the Ming Emperor Xuande.
The bowl dates to the first half of the C18th - circa 1720-40. Good condition for age – except a chip to foot rim related to an old kiln flaw.
Diameter 15.3cm, stands 5.5 cm high at rim.
