No. 2389 Japanese monochrome garlic head vase - Meiji period

£650.00

Japanese garlic head vase with sang de beouf flambe glaze dating to the early Meiji period (circa 1875). The flared body is finely decorated with gilt fans, swords and scrolling ribbon with further gilt decoration around the foot. The lower part of the body has a mottled crushed strawberry glaze. The decoration is of the finest quality.

There is a deep foot rim with an old collectors label and a small character mark to one side of the white glazed base - almost indistinguishable.

Condition: restoration to the neck at some point in the past, otherwise good.

Size: height 28.5 cm, diameter 18cm
