No 2742 Chinese tea bowl and saucer - 18th Century

Small Chinese tea bowl and saucer dating to the early 18th Century. Originally decorated simply in underglaze blue and then later clobbered in green, red and gold, as tastes changed and new enamels were available. The tea cup is octagonal in shape and the saucer is moulded. Base marks on both were added in Europe when clobbered, and are an effort to copy Chinese characters.
