William Manners (1860 – 1930) was a well-known Victorian painter of landscapes and rural genre in oil and watercolour. He was born and lived in Bradford for many years, moving to the Lake District in his later years. He was elected to the RBA in 1893 and exhibited regularly between 1885 and 1920: RBA 41, RA 3, RSA 2, Liverpool 18, Birmingham 10.
A number of his paintings show a similar sky line, cloudy with rays of moon or sunlight. ‘A Shrewsbury Street Scene’ shows many similarities to Kendall by Moonlight.
Condition: very good for age. Slight marks on frame – see photographs.
