Rare Chinese porcelain ox figure from the scholar's table - possibly a water dropper but more likely a brush rest. Dating circa 1835, Daoguang period. Good white porcelain, covered with brown enamel and then finely gilded to delineate the hairs on the animal. Mouth, hooves and horns gilded. A very fine quality piece with an extremely expressive face.
Condition: excellent apart from two small chips to the ends of the horns.
